I originally started John Q. Phats Entertainment because I had a passion for film making and I wanted to make films. And I can’t exactly call us “those people that make films”….. Although, that does have more of a ring to it and it does sort of make sense. Damn, wish I had thought of that before purchasing the domain. Anyway, we are a small group of people just looking to entertain. Our short films get shorter but our out take reels get longer.
I get asked this a lot. Really, it’s an incredibly uninteresting story, but people want to know. John Q. Phats III was a character created in a hockey video game a long time ago who was only good for fighting and checking. In fact, whenever he got on the ice he would either get in to a fight immediately or check everyone on the ice. By everyone, I mean EVERYONE. Including his own team mates and both goalies. Unfortunately we didn’t give him any skill points in shooting or passing, so he would go to shoot and completely miss the net. Why he felt it necessary to check his own goalie is still beyond me but I giggle every time I think about it. But, I dropped the “III” off of the end of his name and now we have John Q. Phats Entertainment.
My cast and crew is pretty much compromised of friends of mine that specialize in different things. For some reason, I meet a lot people that are useful in editing and film making. There are a couple regulars that are key of course. Caine Crockett is in just about everything I do and so is Christopher Musella. Kristen Carter shows up quite a bit. Kristen kind of helped start it all. I’ve been criticized for using the same actors over and over again, but I think it makes for a good workflow. They all know how things work and how I operate. I don’t have to explain anything to them. It makes for shoots that are faster and more enjoyable.
